Fund Houses are required to establish that the source of funds is indeed an NRE account. This is known as an FIRC and is required as per regulations. So at their discretion, they may require an FIRC /proof of the Source of Funds to be provided by the investor.
An FIRC (Foreign Inward Remittance Certificate) is a document from your bank that establishes that the account from which the funds have been transferred is a Repatriable Account (NRE Account). For individual investors, a bank statement of current date that reflects the account type as NRE and the deductions for the purchases in that Folio is an acceptable proof. Some AMC may require an additional letter from the account holder certifying that all purchase have been done from an NRE account only.
